In our latest webinar, meteorologist Brian Bledsoe shared insights on current and upcoming weather patterns as we head into 2025. Here’s a snapshot of the key takeaways:
1. Drought & Weather Patterns:
Brian reviewed recent drought conditions, highlighting dry areas in California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado. While Northern California and parts of the Northwest may see some moisture, Southern regions will likely remain drier than average.
2. La Niña Outlook:
La Niña conditions are weak, and Brian predicts they will persist through early 2025 before shifting to neutral by spring. This means increased pattern variability, especially in northern areas. The farther south you are, the drier the outlook, while Northern Plains states may see more consistent precipitation.
3. Seasonal Predictions:
Looking at long-range forecasts, dry conditions are expected to continue through winter and into early spring, particularly in the Southwest and Southeast. Northern states, on the other hand, could experience wetter weather, which could support moisture relief in some areas.
4. Planning Ahead:
Brian emphasized that 2025 will likely bring increased variability due to the weak La Niña signal, suggesting that the best approach is to monitor forecasts closely and prepare for shifting patterns.
